Seventy-three year-old, James Wathen was hospitalized in Kentucky over a month ago. His condition had suddenly worsened and he had quit eating. That is when the realization hit, that the old man was only missing his one-eyed Chihuahua, Bubba. Bubba had been turned over to Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter. Bubba had also missed James, as he had also quit eating. It was strange as both the dog and James had stopped eating at about the same time. The hospital's staff, realizing that the separation was harmful to both the man and the dog, disregarded the 'no animal rule,' tracked down Bubba, and reunited him with James. When the two were finally reunited, both made "a complete turnaround" (Grenoble, 1). Bubba was extremely sad at first. He was wrapped up in a baby blanket and was shivering and the moment he was twenty steps from James's room, his little head went up. "His eyes got real bright and he was like a different dog" (Grenoble, 1). James started to cry as Bubba was handed to him and then Bubba snuggled by James.

This article is considered to be important as it makes people realize that animals are not only pets, but loved ones. These loved ones, somehow, have this tendency to keep your heart whole. They enter your life and change your entire perspective. They choose to love their owners more than themselves, and therefore pass on the idea of unconditional love.

  1. I cannot believe an old man and a dog had a psychic connection. The fact that you provided a quote that showed how suddenly the mood of the old man and the dog changed when they were reunited causes people to question if humans and animals can have a connection. Perhaps, you could have written how many years the old man had owned the dog.

  2. This story demonstrates how love is one of (if not) the most powerful forces in the universe. The relationship between a man and his best friend turned out to be stronger than any western medicine scientists could create in a lab. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here, that hospitals should implement animals in the treatment process of their patients. Magnificent topic Gohar!

  3. I think your post is extremely eye-opening, especially to those with strongly objective and logical/practical mentalities. They would find it difficult to comprehend that such an emotional connection can be the cause of anything physical, and deem this to be a large coincidence. However, I perceive the mind and our emotions to control a large part of the world and our experiences, which is why I find objectivism difficult to accept. I believe feelings can control human nature.

  4. I believe in these sorts of stories about the connection between a person and his or her pet. This goes to prove that, in essence, everything is connected, or rather, has the potential to be connected. The only matter is opening one's eyes wide enough to see that connection. And this is not a physical, tangible connection, no. It is the driving force of nature. It is the will to love and to be loved, to care and to be cared for. It exists when one is aware of its existence, and it disappears once one disregards it. You chose an amazing topic to write about Gohar. This will leave me thinking for hours, and maybe even days. Your writing is fabulous as always.
